What Causes Hypertrichosis?
You can see a doctor to look back at your family history to see if it runs in your family. Also a doctor can perform a physical on the said person. If you have abnormal hair growth anywhere on your body, you may have a form of Hypertrichosis, and should seek help from a doctor.
- Hypertrichosis Lanuginosa: Can be caused by a mutation by an 8q chromosome. Can also be caused from a spontaneous genetic mutation. This kind of Hypertrichosis comes from a dominant autosomal cutaneous disorder, dosn't come from a sex chromosome.
- Generalized Hypertrichosis: Has a dominant pattern for inheritance. This is linked to chromosome x24-q27.1. A female that carries this gene has a 50% chance of passing it onto her child. A male can never pass this gene to his son, only to his daughter, and she will get it 100% of the time.
- Generalized Hypertrichosis Terminalis: Caused by a change in chromosome 17
